President of India and Supreme Commander of Armed Forces, Pratibha Devisingh Patil, presented standards to five armoured regiments of the 1st Armoured Division at a grand parade of battle-tanks in the Western Sector on November 27, 2011. Regiments that received the presidential standards were 70, 73, 74 and 5 Armoured Regiments and 6 Lancers. Dignitaries present included Governor of Punjab Shivraj Patil, Chief of Army Staff, General VK Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, ADC, GOC-in- C, Western Command Lt Gen SR Ghosh, AVSM, SM, ADC, GOC-in-C, Southern Command and Lt Gen AK Singh, AVSM, SM, VSM, ADC. Following the presentation, 131 T- 90 ‘Bhishma’ tanks started simultaneously, sounding like a great roll of thunder and moving in ceremonial formation dipped their guns in salute as they rumbled past the President. To mark this historic occasion a commemorative memorial was inaugurated earlier by Army Chief General Singh. The massive event ended with a banquet in the honour of the President, attended by military and civil dignitaries.
