Dr Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Scientific Adviser to Defence Minister, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and DGR&D, inaugurated an integrated microwave tube development unit in Bangalore on April 09, 2011. The J C Bose Microwave Tube Facility is installed at the Microwave Tube R&D Centre (MTRDC), a constituent laboratory of the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) in Bangalore, and carries out frontline research on microwave tubes for defence applications of radars and electronic warfare systems.
The new facility houses state-of-the-art precision fabrication machineries, high-voltage test facilities, environment test facilities and High- Power Microwave (HPM) generation and diagnostics facilities. On the occasion, a Microwave Power Module (MPM), a latest product developed by MTRDC and produced by BEL, was handed over to the Programme Director (Akash). The handing over of the MPM also marked the rolling out of the first Flight Level Radar (FLR) System from BEL.
