The four day Annual Chief Engineers’ & Equipment Management Conference-2013 attended by Lt Gen AT Parnaik, Director General Border Roads (BRO) and Secretary Border Roads Development Board, Sanjeev Ranjan and eighteen Chief Engineers of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), began on 25 September, 2013. Addressing the conference, Minister of State for Defence and Chairman Border Road Development Board (BRDB) Jitendra Singh emphasised upon major issues of BRO and said that BRO has done commendable work in tackling the recent disaster in Uttarakhand due to cloud burst and the earthquake in Sikkim. He said that with BRO’s work load exceeding the capacity of the organization, there is a need to outsource some works to CPSUs to achieve the PDCs of strategic roads. Having seen the BRO doing good work on ground in challenging and hostile conditions, he recommended that officials in the Ministry should visit BRO Projects to ascertain the ground realities and hostile conditions where its personnel are deployed.
For increasing the work efficiency of the organization, the MoS laid emphasis on better coordination with Ministries, State Governments and Users by BRO officials through constant interaction with Officials of various Ministries to sort out pending issues. Happy to know about the proposal of introduction of video conferencing facilities, he urged BRO to consider early induction of high tech machinery and technology to improve the quality of construction like it is in European Countries. He informed that the pending cases of BRO are being monitored regularly by conducting BRDB meet on monthly basis. He also assured that long pending issue of procurement of Crawler Rock drill will be finalised shortly. He also presented best Task Force Trophy to 14 BRTF, Project Vartak and Runners Up Trophy to 762 BRTF Project Vijayak.
