Mrs Vijayalakshmy K Gupta assumed charge as the Secretary (Defence Finance) on April 1, 2011 following the retirement of Mrs Nita Kapoor. An IDAS officer of 1974 batch, Mrs Gupta was Member (Finance) in the Telecom Commission till recently. Her earlier assignments include Additional Secretary in Ministry of Women & Child Development and Additional Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Defence, head of the Inter- Ministerial Committee that finalized the design of the auction of 3G Spectrum in May, 2010 and Financial Advisor to the Commonwealth Games 2010 Organizing Committee, from September 2005 to November 2008.
