Director General NCC Lt Gen RK Karwal announced that the Government has finally approved the proposal to raise the strength of NCC Cadets from the present 13 lakhs to 15 lakhs, by raising fifty new battalions, a process, which will be completed in the next five years. Karwal informed that there is a heavy demand from the corporate sector for NCC Cadets and a number of industries give preference to NCC “C” certificate holders for various jobs because they are considered disciplined and punctual. Many central departments and state Governments have reservation in jobs for NCC Cadets, he added. Having almost doubled the opportunities for cadets to participate in adventure and sports activities, NCC is exploring new avenues to expand the Youth Exchange Programme with foreign countries.
