Indian Coast Guard Ship H-191, the fifth of the series of twelve Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs) was commissioned at Mumbai by Director General, Indian Coast Guard, Vice Admiral Anurag G Thapliyal recently. The 21 metres long ACV with 31 tonnes displacement can achieve a maximum speed of 45 knots, is capable of undertaking multifarious tasks like surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue and rendering assistance to small boats/craft in distress at sea.
Based at Okha under the Administrative and Operational Control of the Commander Coast Guard Region (North-West), the hovercraft commanded by Commandant IJ Singh has a crew of two Officers and eleven enrolled personnel. This commissioning ceremony witnessed by Inspector General SPS Basra, Commander Coast Guard Region (West) and other dignitaries from Central and State Government is one of a series of fast-paced acquisitions of assorted patrol vessels since the beginning of this year.
