India-UK joint military training aimed at enhancing counter terrorism skills began on 04 April 2013. Conducted in the hills of Belgaum, Karanataka, the joint exercise code-named Ajeya Warrior simulated a scenario where both nations are working together in a counter terrorism operation.
Fifth in the series which initially started as a biennial feature in 2007 held in India and UK alternatively, this four-week exercise has about 100 personnel of UK army’s Royal Welsh Regiment and a similar strength of a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment of Indian Army. The first week was for familiarization with the organisation, weapons and equipment of both the armies, the second week was for tactical drills and thereafter was realistically simulated counter-terrorism operation.
