Territorial Army (TA) popularly known as Citizen’s Army, launched a Trans India Cycle Expedition, Pradeshik Bhraman to commemorate its 61st Raising Day. Apart from adventure, its aim was of generating awareness about TA amongst youth, enhancing national integration and spreading the message of environment conservation. On 08 March 2011, teams from all over the country comprising 103 cyclists, led by distinguished cricketer Lt. Col. (Honorary) Kapil Dev, converged at New Delhi and after paying homage to the Unknown Soldier at India Gate in a befitting ceremony, they were flagged off by Army Chief General V K Singh. The expedition would cover 130, 000 kms through many states and half the districts of India, on routes including Shivaji’s Trail, Chalukyan Trail, along rivers Ganga, Narmada and others, wild life sanctuaries and reserve forests of various regions and also many remote areas.
