In the Republic Day Parade of 2001 the contingent of the Madras Regiment was awarded ‘FIRST’ positions in Army Day Parade, Republic Day Parade (Inter Services), Best Contingent Commander and was also adjudged Best in Quarter Guard and line layout competitions. Madras Regiment is the only Regiment to achieve this feat so far.
With only a variation of metaphor and with an equal measure of spleen did success the MADRAS REGIMENT was adjudged with the following unique benchmarks in Army Day and Republic Day Parades 2014:-
(a) First in Army Day Parade.
(b) Second in Army Day Quarter Guard cum Line Competition.
(c) Second in Republic Day Parade.
(d) Second in Band Competition.
During the parade, the Regimental Pipe Band had showcased their musical syncopation for a global audience and earned plaudits. Sub Maj Vijayan EV had lead the Army Band during the beating retreat ceremony.
We must recognize that these milestones were only possible due to relentless dedication, perseverance and espirit- de-corps amongst the members. They will continue to inspire the future Thambis to aim for and achieve highest standards in all professional spheres.
We must also recognize the endeavour and leadership provided by the Commandant of the Madras Regimental Centre, Brig S Suresh Kumar VSM. in the 2014 milestones. Proven in combat and distinguished in organizational skills the Brigadier has brought to bear his focused potential to the successes of the Thambis.
