On receiving a requisition from Delhi Government, 201 Bomb Disposal Company under Indian Army’s, Western Command, carried out disposal of unexploded munitions lying at Inland Container Depot, (ICD) Tughlakabad. The operation code-named Sahyog-II, involved disposal of highly dangerous munitions lying at ICD for many years and as such, a serious threat to life and property of the populated areas of Tughlakabad. The specially trained Army Bomb Squad personnel clad in bomb-suits used a remotely operated vehicle to recover the munitions.
Handling the munitions was tricky as their origins were not known and due to their old vintage the chances of accidental detonations were very high. The munitions were carried to the Tilpat range during night so as to ensure safety and to avoid inconvenience to the civil population. The blasting activity was carried out early in the morning and in the evening to avoid the adverse effects of the prevailing hot weather.
