IAF Chief inaugurates MI-17 V5 helicopter base
Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne, the Chief of the Air Staff, inaugurated the new Medium Lift Helicopter (MLH) Complex for raising the new Mi-17 V5 helicopter unit at Phalodi, Rajasthan. The Mi-7 V5 is an armed helicopter, with substantial and effective firepower advanced and powerful engines that will greatly enhance its payload carriage capability at higher altitudes. The pre-engineered hangars made by MES for the first time in the country were also inaugurated. They are the biggest in the IAF and would add to the operational capabilities of this new air base.
Celebrations on NCC Republic Day Camp 2013
Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit visited the NCC Republic Day Parade Camp on January 8, 2013. Lt Gen PS Bhalla, Director General National Cadet Corps (DG NCC) extended a warm welcome to her. She was introduced to the senior officials of the NCC Directorate and presented an impressive ‘Guard of Honour’ by smartly turned out young cadets. She inspected the well laid out tableaus prepared by the NCC cadets from all NCC Directorates depicting the various social awareness themes. NCC Boys Brass Band from Sainik School, Kapurthala played martial tunes. There was a dance performance celebrating the rich culture and heritage of India. Addressing the cadets she lauded the efforts of NCC in bringing about the change in the youth, praised them for their performance and also motivated them to face the challenges with courage.
Commissioning of inshore patrol vessel (IPV) ICGS Rajkamal
Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘ICGS-Rajkamal’, the fourth in the series of eight Inshore Patrol Vessels (IPVs) designed and built by M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkata, was commissioned at Chennai by the Minister of State for Defence Jitendra Singh on January 8, ’13. Vice Admiral, MP Muralidharan, Director General Indian Coast Guard, Inspector General SP Sharma, Commander Coast Guard Region (East) were present among other senior dignitaries. Equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry, it makes an ideal platform for undertaking multifarious close-coast missions such as surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue, and medical evacuation. It has several special features.
INHS Asvini, Mumbai bags the best command hospital trophy
Defence Minister AK Antony gave away the Best Command Hospital Trophy to INHS Asvini, Mumbai and Second Best Command Hospital Trophy jointly to Command Hospital, Western Command, Chandi Mandir and Command Hospital, Air Force, Bangalore on January 04, 2013. Welcoming the gathering DG, Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) Air Marshal DP Joshi elaborated the activities of the AFMS and assured that all the modern equipment and technique for health care are available and soon robotic surgery is likely to be introduced in services hospitals.
Diamond jubilee of 10th course IMA
The 10th course of the Indian Army passed out as commissioned officers on December 28, 1952 from the Military Wing of the National Defence Academy, later known as the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun celebrated the jubilee event, 75 officers, mostly around 80 years of age and their wives attended the re-union lunch at the ASC Officers Mess at Delhi Cantt.
