It gives me immense pleasure to extend my greetings to all ranks, families and veterans of the Assam Regiment and Arunachal Scouts on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee of the Regiment.
The Assam Regiment is an iconic representation of the combined strength and rich martial and cultural traditions of the States of Northeast India. The contributions of the Regiment, in scripting the history of our Nation, have been immense. It began with the outstanding performance of the First Battalion in World War–II, with Six Battle Honours and a Theatre Honour. Immediately after Independence, the Third Battalion performed exceedingly well in Keri Sector, J&K in 1947-48 and won Theatre Honour. The Fifth Battalion earned the Battle Honour of ‘CHHAMB’ and Theatre Honour J&K in 1971 for its valour and sacrifice.
The outstanding achievements of the Regiment in counter-terrorism operations, Siachen Glacier, United Nations Mission, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operations have earned them great laurels.
On this occasion, I pay my deep homage to the Martyrs and deepest respect to all Veterans and Veer Naris of the Regiment.

It gives me immense pleasure to extend my warmest greetings to all Ranks, Families and revered Veterans of the Assam Regiment and Arunachal Scouts on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee of the Regiment.
Over these 75 years, the Regiment through its sweat and toil has created an enviable history. The saga of glory started in World War – II, when, within three years of its raising the first Battalion won SIX BATTLE HONOURS and THEATRE HONOUR BURMA 1942-45 in its very first combat exposure. The Fifth Battalion is the only Infantry Battalion to receive the Battle Honour of ‘CHHAMB’ 1971 due to their unparalleled valour and sacrifice. Today, the Regiment, through its professionalism, strong regimentation, rich heritage and able leadership has distinguished itself with Seven Battle Honours, Three Theatre Honours, Ten Chief of the Army Staff Unit Citation, Twenty Five Army Commanders Unit Citation and Two United Nation Force Commander’s Unit Citation. The Regiment’s contributions to OP RAKSHAK, OP RHINO, OP MEGHDOOT, Humanitarian Aid, Disaster Relief, Games and Sports have also been outstanding.
I wish to place on record my deep appreciation for the exceptional contribution by The Assam Regiment and Arunachal Scouts in fulfilling the multiple missions of the Indian Army.

The Assam Regiment is an iconic representation of Northeast India. It is a profound congregation of the variegated tapestry of diverse topography, ethnic, cultural, lingual and religious practice of the Region. Binding this diversity into strong units is the warrior prowess of the soldiers who have grown up with strong martial and tribal values. The Regiment was raised on 15 June 1941 and stood its ground to turn ‘Defeat into Victory’ winning six Battle Honours in the Second World War. Over the decades, the laurels of the First Battalion have become more iridescent with Theatre Honour J&K 1947 – 48, Battle Honour CHHAMB, Theatre Honour J&K 1971, Ten Chief of the Army Staff Unit Citations, Twenty Five Army Commanders Unit Appreciation and Two United Nations Unit Citations. The blood and sweat spilt along those heroic trails stand aloft in reverence at the War Memorials of Lungleh, Aizawl, Imphal, Jessami, Kohima, Mokokchung, Fazilka, Rakhmuthi, Seb Santra and the Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong.
Our Battalions are doing an outstanding job guarding the Line of Actual Control and the Line of Control defeating infiltration and countering terrorism. Their competence and compassion has had lasting impact on countering insurgency in J&K and stabilising our very own Northeast. Our men have been the bulwark of Operations Rhino, Rakshak and Meghdoot. We have rescued people from floods and restored internal security. The Battalions have performed with equal distinction in UN Missions and Joint Training with friendly foreign countries. The Regimental Centre has achieved exceptional standards in training and sports. The Records have been positively supporting the serving personnel and veterans alike.
We salute our Martyrs, Veterans, Serving soldiers and their families. The ‘Rhino Charge’will continue in true spirit, Robust, Honest, Indomitable, Nimble and Offensive.
